does selecting sound on your taskbar (at bottom) and then selecting mixer and lower your game volume not work? You can lower individual volumes if its active, ex, increase media player volume while lowering game volume.

You can try getting realtek drivers if it helps. Make sure you remove all other sound devices, software.

Also on a side note, automatic update didn't work even though I had it checked. I had to hit "check for updates" manually.

So far so good. Looks like removing IE 11 under ctrl pannel-->programs and features---> installed updates and under "turn windows features on and off" and enabling virtual dub hack (if using h264 to record) fixes all the issues I was having.
