FPS vs Quality

Fri Nov 29, 2013 9:45 pm

Does reducing the FPS, or reducing the Quality have a greater effect in reducing the video size?

I'm currently on 30 FPS and 50 Quality, and I still find the video size too big. Suggestions as to which one I should reduce?

My goal is as to have a smooth video, but it doesn't have to be too pretty.

Thanks in advance~

FPS would help the filesize, quality not too much I don't think.
It also would be good for you to take a look at the video codecs, some of them compress more than others, but if they compress more they use more resources.

Take a look at this page: http://www.bandicam.com/support/tips/best-codec/

Hmm... i think both do.

I had a 30 minute video: 70 quality (30 FPS) = 4.3 GB and 30 quality (30 FPS) = 2.3 GB

Pretty big difference. Whenever i lower the FPS to below 30 it seems a little unsmooth. So i guess i'll just keep that at 30 FPS and lower the quality instead.

PS: Thanks a lot for that link! I think i'll try the H.264 Nvidia CUDA codec.

I wasn't too sure about the quality, I usually set mine to 90-100, because I'd want the best quality possible.
I don't know if you already know what FPS is, but 30 FPS is what YouTube uses. FPS stands for Frames Per Second and the higher the FPS, the smoother the video goes. As you know, the lower, the less smooth.
