AVI Recordings Stopped Working

Sat Mar 22, 2014 2:48 am

Hi Bandicam community,

I have been enjoying this program for quite a while, and it has always worked pretty well. However, for the past two times I have recorded, I end up with AVI files that simply won't play. I have tried fixing these files in Bandifix, but Bandifix says that the video files aren't corrupted. After "fixing" them, they still won't play. I have tried playing them in Windows Movie Maker and VLC, but no luck.

I am attaching a screenshot. I recently changed my video recording setting to "motion jpeg" and audio to "PCM," but these settings worked for two prior recordings. I'm not sure what went wrong.

Interesting!

Since you have tried other video players, what codec is giving the problem output/recordings?
Have you changed other things in the system, such as the GPU?
Just to understand correctly, it works 'now' - but only with MJPEG/PCM settings?

Hi,

According to your video, the recorded video file size is "4.01 KB".
It means that there is no video information in the file.

Good catch, Bandi! I didn't even scroll around the picture at all, I sometimes forget it's there to do so hah

@hansa:

- Perhaps your disk is full?
- Check to see if the game is using a different renderer, perhaps Software based for example, then the DirectX/OpenGL setting won't be able to detect/hook onto it. You'll have to play in a window and capture with Rectangle On A Screen then, is all.

Keep trying to figure it out!

I'm not sure but I think you can only record from the DOSbox in window mode, can't you?
The game I tried to record went to full screen when it started, but the actual DOS box was just a small window on my desktop, so I had to try and capture that area using the window mode (which was difficult because the display went to full screen within a second and I ended up having thick black bars all around my video).

Hi Kansa,

You can make DOSbox use OpenGL/DirectDraw as renderers and then it will use the hardware of your GPU to accelerate the output, then Bandicam can hook onto it and record.
You can also change the way it displays the screen, stretching it out to fill your entire monitor/resolution, that way you won't have the big black areas around it, if you don't want them (called the 'scaler' I believe).
The only thing is, the commands to do all these great things escapes me at the moment lol
Sorry, but they are there in the ReadMe/Manual and files on how to configure the CONF file for DOSbox, I assure you :)
