Bandicam and Pinnacle Studio 12 (solved by curiosity)

Fri Nov 15, 2013 10:58 am

Hello,

I tried looking through everything I could here at the forums but didn't see anything like my problem. If someone has addressed this already please forgive the repeat.

I just recently started using Bandicam with great success. My only issue is that in Pinnacle Studio 12 the sound plays but no video. All other players on my system play the video just fine with really nice clarity. I tried a different AVI made by another program and it wouldn't play right either, other players just fine. I un-installed Bandicam and Pinnacle played AVI files normaly. Installed Bandicam again, Pinnacle went back to not playing AVI files correctly.

Apparently Bandicam is somehow interfering with Pinnacle even when I use the
Sony Vegas/Premiere/Pinnacle preset. I know my Pinnacle is an older version
but it has filled my needs so far.

I would appreciate any help.

Thank you.

- Windows Version: Windows 7 64 bit
- Graphic card model: nVidia 660ti 2 gig ram
- Bandicam version: 1.9.1.419
- Bandicam mode: Both 'DirectX/OpenGL window' and 'Rectangle on a screen'
- Recording Target: Borderlands 2 and desktop screen

HI,

If you want to edit the recorded video with Pinnacle Studio, we recommend you use "Motion JPEG and PCM" codec.

Thank you for your prompt response.

The Bandicam preset for Sony Vegas/Premiere/Pinnacle defaults to the settings you mentioned and that is what I used.

Funny thing, I just tried to use Windows Movie Maker and it won't work either while Bandicam is installed. Uninstalled Bandicam and it works now.

As I said in my first post Pinnacle doesn't work properly either while Bandicam is installed. This is too much of a coincidence. I can only speculate that Bandicam is grabbing something on install and not letting it go to let my video editing programs use it.

Bandicam is the best recorder I've found but I'm afraid I haven't the patience to install and uninstall when I want to record and edit.

So last night I'm uninstalling Bandicam for what I thought was the last time. I always poke around the hard drive after an unistall to see if there is anything left behind. Sure enough there was a directory called BandiMPEG1. Inside it there were two dll's and an uninstall.exe.

I wondered to myself if this had anything to do with my Pinnacle not showing video and my Movie Maker not working. So I reinstalled Bandicam and made a recording. To make sure I wasn't imagining things I tried to play it with Pinnacle. No dice. Closed out Pinnacle, went to where the 'BandiMPEG1' directory was located and deleted it. I left it in the trash in case I needed it. I Went back into Pinnacle and lo and behold it played my video no problem. Movie maker started working again too. Closed everything out, put the directory back, things quit working properly again.

As an experiment I went to my laptop and installed Bandicam and Pinnacle. Sure enough, Pinnacle woudn't play the video. Deleted the BandiMPEG1 directory and all was well. Unfortunately I couldn't repeat the problem with Movie Maker, I can only say it may be the difference in hardware.

In a nutshell I renamed the BandiMPEG1 and everything works fine now. I'm not sure if I need it because I'm still able to make recordings without it. I didn't try all the setting combinations but it works for what I need.

I hope this helps others out.

Peace

I believe BandiMPEG1 only is required for the MPEG-1 codec to work. As long as you use Motion JPEG, or basically any other codec, it should work fine.

It's odd how Pinnacle seems to be incompatible with that though.

My version of Pinnacle is older, 4 or 5 years maybe. It could be that newer versions don't have this issue. I'm just happy it all works and I'll go ahead and press the button to buy it now.

It might be a codec problem with BandiMPEG1 and other codecs in your PC.

Could you please send your system information like below?
1. Download https://dl.bandisoft.com/tools/bsa.exe, and execute bsa.exe
2. Copy and paste your system information and email it to bandicam@bandisoft.com.
