Issues with H.264 NVIDIA NVENC Settings - Outdated System?

Wed May 13, 2015 11:58 am

Hi folks, newbie here. Been enjoying Bandicam for a couple of weeks now but I've been having difficulties getting the H.264 NVIDIA NVENC Settings to cooperate on audio sync with the video. I've seen a few other posts around with similar questions and I'm wondering if my current system is just too weak to handle H.264. So for testing I was playing audio from my DAW while displaying the VU meters on video at 1920x1080 capture size. I recorded all tests in .AVI, seems to work better. So I tried both VBR and CBR, VBR seemed to settle at around a 2 mbps range and I tried CBR settings down to about 1 mbps. Another setting I tweaked was the Quality (VBR mode only) from full at 100 down to 50. With all combinations of H.264 mode I had significant audio delays (up to 5 seconds) in various parts of the 2 minute test videos I recorded. Audio in all cases was set to PCM (Save as original format).

So after all that testing, I switched from H.264 to MPEG-1 still using the same Audio settings and saving as .AVI and audio stays perfectly synced.

So is my system just too old and slow for H.264?

Steve

Hello!

Do you have the problem "when you play the video with your media player" or "when you edit the video with your video editing program"?

1. If you have the problem with your media player, reinstall the latest graphics card driver, and try it again.

2. If you have the problem with your editing program, please let us know the name of your editing program.

Hello Bandisoft, would it be possible to display the fps while recording non-DirectX/OpenGL with NVENC ?
It's very useful to know how good it is performing compared to other codecs. Thanks !

I have the problem in Cyberlink Power Director 13. The Bandicam play feature does not work. I will try another AVI player to see if results change.

I have the latest NVIDIA drivers installed a few days ago. Had this problem before and after.

We've added the idea to our to-do list.
Thank you for suggesting it.

To edit with Cyberlink Power Director 13, use the "Motion JPEG and PCM" codecs.

You may try VLC or POT media player.

Thanks for the suggestions. In the original post I stated that H.264 did not work but MPEG-1 did work. Both of those codecs produced a similar size .AVI file in 2 minutes, about 65 meg.

I tried Motion JPEG on your suggestion and it worked well too in Power Director. However this codec made a 2 gig file for the 2 minute video test. I am assuming this is an uncompressed format?

From Bandicam's perspective which codec is better quality, MPEG-1 or Motion JPEG?

Thanks,

Steve
