Suggestion: allow use of VFW codecs, especially x264.

Sat May 07, 2011 2:15 pm

I like the auto-split and watermark features of Bandicam, but I wish I could use a better codec...like x264! My PC is very powerful, it's made for playing games and editing video/images (Photoshop, AfterEffects, etc.), so I can handle encoding in x264 as I record and play a game.

That's the only real suggestion I could come up with. XviD is pretty bad, and so is MPEG-1, though I understand why they're in Bandicam (they're fast and lightweight, no lag for bad PCs), but still...there should be a way for people with better PCs to use better codecs!

Thanks for your time. :)

Hi Mark,

Your suggestion is good and I'm sure something like is going to be implemented soon. I did mention whether or not Bandicam could feature presets for advanced users with more knowledge and higher specified computers.

Hello Mark,

This is Zun from Bandisoft.

As you know x264 uses lots of system resources, so it's not a good codec for game recording.
Thank you for the suggestion. We will consider the codec in the future. :D

Best Regards,
Zun

Anything that allows me more control over output is good, even if it wasn't x264 specifically. XviD/DivX is okay, but Bandicam doesn't allow me to tweak any of the advanced settings, so the files it makes are either too big or too low-quality for me to use (it would help if we were allowed to specify our own quality levels in decimals).

I didn't mean to be rude, it's just I'm used to having many more options to tweak for my output than just bitrate. ;)

Hi Mark,

If your wanting to record high quality footage that is directly editable in a NLE (Non-Linear-Editor) for instance Premier Pro or After Effects then I would record in either Motion JPEG or YV12 as these are direct editable codecs. Premier Pro and many other NLE's really don't like Xvid, Divx and other final codecs and personally unless your not looking to edit the footage and wish to upload directly then record in either Xvid or Divx.

Motion JPEG if by far the best to record with which is directly editable not like Xvid or similar codecs as these are considered as "final" codecs which are purely for end products like DVD's or rendered footage which will no longer be edited.

I hope this helps!

Hello!

Bandicam now supports the third party VFW (Video for windows) codec - External codec
You could try Xvid, DivX, x264 and Lagarith lossless codec.

- Bandicam 1.8.2 download: http://www.bandicam.com/downloads/
- How to use VFW codec (External codec): http://www.bandicam.com/faqs/vfw-x264-x ... 264-codec/

Thank you for suggesting!

Best regards,
Bandicam Team
