HDD - Write speed

Sat Oct 05, 2013 1:38 am

Hello there again, still happy with my Bandi software, but i have run into another problem / question.
Is there a conversion table / diagram that shows the write speed your HDD needs in order to record 720 / 1080 (etc.) on different codecs? Like if i want to record 1080 @ 30 fps on the H.264 external codec, what should my HDD write speed be? This since I noticed some stuttering during recordings. If you guys can give me a formula from somewhere so i can calculate these things myself i would also be more than happy.

Greetings.

Hello!

USB 1.1 = 12 Mbit/s
USB 2.0 = 480 Mbit/s
USB 3.0 = 5 Gbit/s

SATA 1 = 1.5Gb/s
SATA 2 = 3Gb/s
SATA 3 = 6Gb/s

Even though you choose "RGB24 + PCM" codec of Bandicam, it will require around 200Mbit/s.
So, we think the HDD speed is good enough to save the recording data.

To reduce lagging, you may upgrade the CPU and graphic card.
