Feature Request : Background recording

Tue May 12, 2015 9:40 pm

Hello,

Bandicam is an amazing software. I love its userfriendliness and GPU support that allow us to record smooth and beautiful videos on low-end machines.

But Bandicam lacks a great feature : background recording ! Being able to record a hidden window while doing something else (like check e-mails, or work) is priceless. One of your competitors, that I won't give the name here, has been supporting background recording for a few years now. Unfortunately their software is barely upated (last update was in July 2014  ), is not very userfriendly, doesn't support GPU acceleration, only supports Audio PCM when an external codec is used, and on top of that is a bit buggy. But their unique feature of background recording makes their software worth it.

Is there a possibility that my favourite software, Bandicam, implements this feature ? Or is it too hard to do ?

Thanks and keep up the great work ! ;)

Hello!

We will consider it in the future.

Thank you for suggesting it.

I hate to pop-in after Bandisoft has posted their 'official answer', usually; but if I may, I found through my own testing that Bandicam can record a program running 'in the background' if you don't mind running it in a Windowed Mode, for now.

As an example, if you run your application in a Windowed Mode and record (DirectX/OpenGL Window), it will stay 'hooked' onto that program, recording away, while you ALT+TAB and do other things, should you need to (but keep in mind it may record "all sounds" occurring on your system, depending on how your audio is set up).

Maybe this will help you out for now, until it gets fully implemented by the wonderful Bandisoft

Thanks for your suggestion GameTipsAndMore. Unfortunately, I don't use Bandicam to record DirectX/OpenGL.
I just use it to record livestreams.

@Bandisoft : Thanks for your reply. But do you have the technology to do that ? The other software claims to be the only one in the world that is able to record a window that is in the background. Also for your information, it is no more in development cycle, they are planning on releasing a game recorder like Bandicam in the next 2 months.

I agree 100 percent.

I love the Bandicam demo, and would pay the pretty steep price, but the lack of this feature is holding me back.

I would like to record a show or sporting event but be able to work on my PC while it is recording in background so I may watch it later.

If I can pop back in on this, seeing this thread back in my email reminded me of something else:

If you don't have one around the house, you can usually find spare Monitors for real cheap on sites like Ebay and Kijiji and other 'Classifieds' in your area. In the last city I lived in, I bought an old 21" CRT monitor for 5 dollars! It was heavy of course, but it worked great as a second monitor, just for the extra Desktop space.
You could attach a second monitor to your GPU and Extend the Desktop - and then just 'move' the Window you record from over there (the one playing the Stream) - then you can just leave Bandicam recording on 'that side', while you do other things/play games/etc on the first/main monitor!

Just another idea until it all gets sorted out :geek:

Hello,

We are pleased to inform you that the 'Specific window' recording function was added on Bandicam 7.0.0 and you can now record a selected window even if it is covered by another window.
