Hi, In summary,

I have an AVI file of 1.8 Gb.
I want convert my AVI to MP4 with the best possible quality without exceeding the original file size too much.

I am not a great expert in this domain but I tried :

Using Encoding mode.
if I use the Bitrate control "VBR" with the quality parameter to 100, the final file will be 8.1 gb in size.
but it greatly exceeds the size of the original file.

if I use the Bitrate control "CBR", I can set a bitrate parameter which will influence the file size and the quality video.

I don't know what is the best exact value to set to have the best possible quality without exceeding too much the original file size.

Please try again after setting the video size to the original size and quality to 50~80.
