Suggestion to workaround hooking problems....

Thu Jul 18, 2024 3:49 am

I notice that Bandicam is having more and more trouble hooking into newer games in the past few years. One thing I noted, and have done some limited tests, is that most times, it SEEMS that the following tends to happen:

1 - If the game starts WITH Bandicam FPS counter visible, hence Bandicam can record game video, there is a high chance that the platform overlay is blocked. Eg, SHIFT-TAB doesn't bring up Steam overlay, or Discord overlay etc.

2 - If game starts WITHOUT Bandicam FPS counter visible (which happens very often nowadays), the platform overlays work fine. Pressing Bandicam shortcut keys work (I hear the beeps which I enabled), but nothing is recorded. I assume it's because Bandicam failed to hook.

3 - If I ALT-TAB out after a game is loaded, and all their platform overlays etc are working, and START Bandicam, it hooks fine, and recording works, and Steam etc overlays also work.

Hence it seems somehow that overlays from Discord etc are interfering with Bandicam and the hooking fails. Or, in case (1) above, Bandicam is interfering with overlays somehow.

SUGGESTION
===========
Have an option for Bandicam to DELAY HOOKING in Game Recording mode... maybe let us specify to wait 5 seconds, or 10 seconds etc after a game starts, before Bandicam tries to hook.

Why?

I notice in MSI Afterburner, their OSD does not appear IMMEDIATELY when the game starts... it usually is some seconds later after the game starts, then it appears. All overlays from Steam or EA or ubisoft etc continue to work.
