Question about recording

Wed Apr 17, 2024 3:41 am

Hi there,

I have access to a video archive for a few days...mostly old news clips and stuff and to be honest, it's super cool and I'd like to have some of the clips saved for my own personal interest. The footage is on a website and doesn't require me to click any extensions or plugins, etc. The only option is I can click the video to expand onto my screen and fit the size however I want.

My question is: if I were to screen record this, would the server that I'm using to archive the footage be notified? I did have to set up an account and login, but that's the extent of things. I only have access for another month or so.

Thanks,

Hello,

If you're using screen recording software to capture footage from a website, the server hosting the website is typically not notified of your actions. Screen recording works by capturing whatever is displayed on your screen, so it essentially records the visual output of your computer rather than interacting directly with the website's server.

As long as you're not engaging in any unauthorized downloading or distribution of copyrighted material, screen recording for personal use should generally be fine. However, it's always a good idea to review the terms of service or any usage agreements you agreed to when accessing the website, as they may have specific guidelines regarding the use of their content.

In summary, screen recording content from a website for personal use should not notify the server hosting the content, but it's important to ensure that you're complying with any applicable laws and terms of service.

Hello,

Bandicam does not gather any recording data since the recorded files are saved only on the user's PC and not uploaded to the Bandicam server.

However, if you are required to log in to a service, there is a possibility that the service provider may know that you are recording.

Thank you.
