What if you need to do Zoom meetings, Discord chats, Skype calls, etc., on a computer but don't have a microphone? Or what if you have to record your voice for a presentation but your microphone device is broken? The good news is that there are several, simple ways to record and use audio on your computer without a microphone.
Use a smartphone or a mobile headset (earphones) as a microphone on your PC if you encounter any of the following issues: you don’t have a microphone, your microphone device is broken, or you have a problem recording your voice.
Don’t worry if you don’t have earphones or headphones that can be used as a microphone. There is another solution: you can use your Android or iPhone as a PC microphone using the WO Mic app. With this program, you can connect your smartphone's microphone to your computer.
Download the WO Mic program on both your computer and mobile phone.
Install the WO Mic app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store, and open the WO Mic app on your phone.
Go to the WO Mic website, and install the client and driver on your PC by clicking on “WO Mic Installer for Windows.”
Connect the WO Mic Phone app with the WO Mic Client on Windows PC.
There are four transport types: Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, and USB. iPhones can only be connected via Wi-Fi, whereas Android phones can be connected via all four types of transport.
Select the transport type, such as USB or Wi-Fi, in the WO Mic app settings.
If you choose the Wi-Fi method for transport, simply press the play button, and you will see the IP address.
Run the WO Mic Client on your computer.
If you select the USB transport method on the phone app, select the USB type and connect.
If you connect via Wi-Fi, select the Wi-Fi, enter the IP address displayed in the phone app, and connect.
Install and start Bandicam. Select "(Default Output Device)" for the Speakers and "WO Mic Device" for the Microphone to record both your computer sound and voice.
You can now use your earphone as a microphone on Webex, Zoom, Discord, Skype, etc., and record meetings and video calls.
How to Use Earphones as a Microphone and Record
By connecting your mobile earphones to your computer or laptop, you will be able to use the earphones as a microphone or speaker device for your computer.
Connect earphones (headphones) to a computer.
Case 1) If there is a single audio jack on your computer (usually a laptop), simply plug your earphones into the audio input jack and select 'headset' as a plug-in device.
Case 2) Does your computer (usually a desktop) have separate audio jacks?
Most headphones and earphones have a single jack with 4 poles, which are incompatible for direct connection with PCs that have jacks for 3-poled inputs. In this case, you will need to use an audio splitter that splits one headphone jack into headphone and microphone jacks.
Plug the earphones into the jack on the Y-splitter.
Connect the splitter to the jacks on your PC.
Install and start Bandicam. Select "(Default Output Device)" for the Speakers and "earphone microphone" for the Microphone to record both your computer sound and voice.
You can now use your earphone as a microphone on Webex, Zoom, Discord, Skype, etc., and record meetings and video calls.
