What is a facecam? Want to record your screen with a facecam?

Thousands of YouTubers create videos with their faces displayed on the corner of their screens. Ever wonder how they do it? Well, all you have to do is record your computer screen and a facecam.

A facecam (or face cam) is a live recording of a face in an online video, such as Let's Play videos, and it usually includes audio narration. It has become the latest trend for YouTubers to put their own faces in the corner of their gameplay or video tutorial, and share it on YouTube.

To add a face to a video, people used to record their computer screen and webcam separately and merge the recorded videos with video editing software such as Adobe Premiere or Sony Vegas. However, with the rapid development of technology, you no longer need to merge videos through video editing software. All you need is a screen recorder with facecam, which records your computer screen and facecam at the same time.

Creating a facecam video and sharing it on YouTube is a powerful way to demonstrate your knowledge, talent, experience, and even make money. Facecams can be added to an online lecture, tutorial, webinar, PowerPoint presentation, video resume, Let's Play videos, and more.

How to add a facecam to your gameplay or Let's Play videos

If you have a computer/laptop, webcam device, microphone, and game recording program, you can make your own Let's Play video and add your face to the video to make it more vivid and attractive. To add a facecam to your gameplay video, follow the steps below:

1. Install Bandicam and start.

2. Click on the "Add Webcam overlay" icon in Bandicam.

   • Select the "Add webcam overlay to video" option.
   • Choose the webcam (camera) device.
   • In Advanced settings, you can set the size, position, and shape of the webcam screen.
   • If you click the "Preview webcam on screen" option, you can preview the webcam screen while recording.

3. Select "(Default Output Device)" and your microphone device to record computer sound and your voice.

4. Now, select the 'Game Recording' mode and run the game.

   • A green-colored number (FPS) will appear in the top-left corner when the recording target is executed.
   • Click the ● REC button or press the hotkey (F12) to start/stop the recording.
   • As the recording begins, the color of the number in the top-left corner will change from green to red.

5. Press the REC button or hotkey (F12) to end the recording, and check the captured video.

How to record your face and computer screen at the same time

If you have a computer, webcam device, microphone, and screen recording program, you can make your own video tutorial and add your face to one corner of your video. To add a facecam to your tutorial video, follow the steps below:

1. Download Bandicam Screen Recorder and start.

2. Go to the video settings menu and check the "Add webcam overlay to video option.

3. Select the 'Screen Recording' Mode, and press the hotkey (F12) to start/stop the recording.

Move your facecam screen

You can freely change the webcam Picture-in-Picture (PIP) position in Screen Recording Mode. You will see a move icon if you hover your mouse over the webcam overlay screen. Put your mouse on the move icon and drag it to reposition the webcam PIP screen.

Toggle between small and fullscreen Webcam

To enlarge your webcam screen, hover your mouse over the PIP screen and click on the fullscreen toggle icon. Click on the toggle icon again to return the webcam screen to its original size. This feature is only available in Screen Recording Mode.

If the webcam preview does not work or a black border is visible

If you do not see the webcam preview screen, select a webcam resolution manually such as 640x360 instead of '(Auto-detection Format).' If you want to make your webcam full screen without black borders, select the webcam format ratio that is identical to the recording ratio instead of selecting '(Auto-detection Format).' For example, if you record your computer screen in a 16:9 aspect ratio, such as 1920*1080, choose the same 16:9 aspect ratio, such as 640*360, for your webcam overlay format.

How to change your webcam shape - Add a circle facecam

If you add a facecam in Bandicam, your webcam screen will appear as a rectangle by default. However, you may have seen the webcam shape look different in YouTube videos, tutorials, etc. With Bandicam, you can easily change the webcam shape to a square, circle, or ellipse. Select ‘Advanced’ in the Recording settings, and adjust the webcam to your desired shape, size, border blur effect, etc. For example, when you select a circle, the webcam screen will turn into a circle.

How to turn on/off the webcam screen while recording

If you want to turn on/off the webcam screen while recording, check "Save webcam video as separate file (.mp4)" and "Enable preview toggle hotkey (Tab key)," and use the preview toggle hotkey while recording.

How to record your face/webcam

If you have a computer, webcam device, microphone, and webcam recording program, you can record your face/webcam. To record your face/webcam, download/install Bandicam from https://www.bandicam.com/downloads/, click on the Webcam/HDMI icon to use the 'Device Recording' mode, and press the hotkey (F12) to start/stop the recording.

Record your facecam and upload it to YouTube or Vimeo

To upload a facecam video to YouTube or Vimeo, go to the Home tab of Bandicam and click the [Upload] button.
